“The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.” — Matthew 25:4
The parable of the ten virgins reminds us of a powerful truth: we are called to be ready, to be filled, and to keep our light burning. But what fuels that light? What keeps our spiritual lamp from running dry in a world that often drains us?
The answer is simple—but sacred: the oil.
The oil represents our personal relationship with God. It symbolizes our time in prayer, our intentional pursuit of His Word, the words we speak over ourselves, and how we walk in love and obedience.
Your Lamp Needs Tending
Even the brightest flame will burn out without fuel. Just like a lamp cannot stay lit without oil, our spiritual light can’t shine without a steady supply of God's presence and guidance.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
Tending to your lamp means being intentional in how you speak, live, think, and surrender daily.
What Is Your Oil Made Of?
The oil that fuels your light comes from:
🕊️ Prayer: Intimate time with God
📖 The Word: Letting scripture feed your soul
💭 Thoughts: Speaking truth to yourself
🗣️ Behavior: Responding with love and grace
🤍 Obedience: Doing what God has called you to, even when it’s hard
Every time you return to Him, you are refilling your oil.
When Your Lamp Feels Empty
Sometimes, we grow weary. Life gets heavy. We’re so busy being light for others that we forget to refuel. But God promises to replenish what we bring to Him in surrender.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” — Isaiah 40:29
Let Him pour into you. Let Him refill what’s been drained.
Ways to Refill Your Oil:
Wake up and spend the first 10 minutes in worship or prayer
Choose one verse to meditate on throughout the day
Speak life over yourself every morning
Write down how you want your light to shine this week
Spend time in stillness—just listening for God's voice
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Final Encouragement
You don’t have to shine on empty. You don’t have to carry the weight of being light without being filled.
Let God pour the oil into your lamp. Let Him restore you, guide you, and renew your flame. Because when you’re filled with Him, your light will shine brighter than ever before.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
